Self Portraits

The pictures you see above are portraits that describe my person. There are people that may think they know me, but sometimes they have no idea. I wanted to have people think about my portraits when they say them. There are some that you can easily tell that I am smiling because I like to smile, and I like to think of myself as a very happy person that sees the positive things in life. There are other pictures that my emotion is not easily readable, this is because I wanted others to feel the pictures and be able to think more about what is happening in the portrait? or what is she thinking about? I tried to use my surroundings such as using my reflection, using the rule of thirds, and getting a good lighting in my pictures. These all played a big role in my portrait project. I feel like I got what I was looking for, which is describing me as I really am.

Portraits

These pictures were taken on October 27,2012. They were taken in Tualatin, more specifically, they were taken at my house. The portraits that you see are two really important people in my life, my mom and my little sister. I chose them because they have always been there for me, and they are really special to me. I wanted to talk to my mom and ask her about things in her past, such as her childhood and teenage years. I was able to get some expressions from her as you may see in her portraits. I had a good mother and daughter time with her thanks to this project. My sister is someone that I know enjoys the camera, therefore I chose her for my project. I knew I was going to be able to get some good pictures out of her. We also had a very nice conversation, and I was able to have a good sister bonding time.

Web Assignment #5: Beauty

How would you define beauty in photography?
I feel that beauty in photography is how you touch people. It is the emotions that you cause in people, once they see the photograph.

What are the characteristics of photographic beauty?
The characteristics of photographic beauty can be photographs that has emotion and that causes the emotion in people. Also, the different visual perspectives that it gets because everyone has a different and unique way of viewing things.

Can something "ugly" be photographed and be considered beautiful? Why? How?
Something "ugly" can be photographed and considered beautiful because someone may see it "ugly" but others may see it beautiful, not everyone has the same point of view. We all have our own way of seeing things.

Example?
For example, one may see this picture of the crayons and think that it doesn't look good because of all the shavings everywhere, but others may see it as beautiful because of how all the different colors are being displayed.
